Fisk athletics director Corrinne Tarver names former Penn State Nittany Lion Kourtney Chinnery as gymnastics' assistant coach

NASHVILLE, Tennessee - Fisk University Athletics Director/Gymnastic Head Coach Corrinne Tarver announced the hiring of Kourtney Chinnery as a graduate assistant. Chinnery starred in gymnastics at Penn State University from 2017 through 2022. During her time as a student-athlete, she earned a spot on the dean's list for six out of eight semesters. Chinnery while competed on Vault, Uneven Bars, and Floor Exercise for the gymnastics team. 

"I am excited to welcome Kourtney to the gymnastics staff," said Tarver. "She brings a wealth of experience as a collegiate gymnast and will be a great asset in helping the gymnasts transition from club to collegiate gymnastics." 

 
Chinnery's accolades includes being named the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association All-America Scholar Athlete and Winter Academic All-Big 10 Conference Team member from 2018-2021. In 2019, she won the Big 5 Vault title. She earned a degree in Biology degree in 2021 and Master's in Management and Organizational Leadership in 2022, both from Penn State. 

"I am delighted to assist Coach Tarver, whose program will be a first for HBCUs," said Chinnery. "I want to help young African American gymnasts and women of color succeed in sport, school, and life."

Kourtney is a native of Suffolk, Virginia and a grad of Summit Christian Academy (Yorktown, VA).  She is also a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.
