Another HBCU on Track for Reaccreditation | Liann Herder
One of Knoxville College (KC) famous alumnus is Alonzo Smith "Jake" Gaither, who was an All-Conference (SIAC) left end on the Bulldogs football team. Gaither graduated with a B.A. in 1927, and a M.A. in Physical Education from Ohio State University in 1937. Coach Gaither spent 24 years at Florida A&M University as head football coach, from 1945 to 1969, amassing an astonishing record of 203-36-4 (.844). He was inducted into the National Football Foundation College Football Hall of Fame (1975) and the Black College Football Hall of Fame, amongst many other awards and national accolades.
