Buchanan leads XULA on first day of Louisiana Classics

Xavier University of Louisiana AthleticsLAFAYETTE, Louisiana — Xavier University of Louisiana's Shane Buchanan ran the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9 minutes, 46.25 seconds Friday during a third-place finish at the Louisiana Classics track and field meet.
     
Producing top-15 finishes for the XULA women were Shalysa Wray (12th place, 25.59) and Ariel Ford (13th, 25.60) in the 200.
     
The two-day meet will conclude Saturday. Field events will start at 10 a.m., and running events will begin at 2 p.m. XULA's men and women will compete in the 400, 800, 1,500, 400 hurdles, discus, high jump, long jump and triple jump. The women will compete in the 100 and shot put, and the men will run the 110 hurdles.
     
The meet venue is Cajun Track/Soccer Facility of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

Women
     200:  Shalysa Wray, 12th in 25.59; Ariel Ford, 13th in 25.60; Alexis Williams, 18th in 26.21; Ry-Anne Riley, 22nd in 26.59; Justyce Riggs, 24th in 26.63
     Javelin:  Tamia Scott, 16th in 28.54 meters (93 feet, 8 inches)

Men
     200:  Jordan Ashmore, 30th in 23.38.
     3,000 Steeplechase:  Shane Buchanan, 3rd in 9:46.25
