Busy day of locals signing football scholarship set for Wednesday

DOTHAN, Alabama  --  It will be a busy Wednesday of local high school seniors signing football scholarships in the Wiregrass.

Pending any last-minute changes, it appears 30 or more area players will sign a true athletic football scholarship on Wednesday, including eight with major bowl subdivision programs.

EXCERPT:

Abbeville standout quarterback Martavious King is expected to sign with fellow Ohio Valley program, Murray State,  and Northview linebacker Trey Brown with Prairie View A & M of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC).

Nine players will sign with Division-II programs, including three to Tuskegee -- Dothan wide receivers Adrian Kirkland and Trey Jackson and Northview wide receiver Jonathan Carmichael.
Also planning to ink with Division-II programs are Dothan offensive lineman Daniel Hill and Barbour County linebacker Michael Williams to West Alabama, Dothan linebacker Charles Corbitt and Northview nose guard Trey Balcom with Stillman College, Northview defensive lineman Corey Whitehurst and offensive lineman James Tillman with Benedict (S.C.) College and Carroll linebacker Darice Allen with Miles College.


Six Northview players are planning to play at Concordia College of Selma, which lists itself as an NAIA school, though it plays mostly as an independent program. The six are tight end Maurice Pittman, outside linebacker Antonio Glasco, running back Caleb Easley and wide receivers KeHandre Martin, Adrian Brooks, and Darius Gary.
