Alabama State football: Hornets go high-tempo in first spring practice

MONTGOMERY, Alabama -- The substitutions were quick, the pace even quicker.

It certainly didn’t look like the first day of spring practice for the Alabama State football team.

“That’s one of the things we’re trying to emphasize this spring,” quarterback Daniel Duhart said. “I think we did a great job today — for it being our first practice — of going fast. We’re going to continue to pick up the tempo.”

“We’re hoping to be able to go fast, if they don’t change the rule,” ASU head coach Reggie Barlow said. “I thought the guys were (going fast).”

The first of 15 spring practices took less than 90 minutes, with third-year offensive coordinator Fred Kaiss and second-year defensive coordinator Kevin Ramsey seamlessly inserting players into a fast-paced practice of helmets and sweat pants that was over almost before it started.
