Defensive coordinator Brawnski Towns said right end Dominic Cummings and cornerback Stephan Tucker are expected to be back at practice today as Alabama A&M begins preparations for its Sept. 1 opener at Tennessee State.
Cummings, who has been hampered by a leg injury, and Tucker, bothered by an ankle injury, have missed a number of practices and were held out of Saturday's scrimmage. Towns said if they can't get back this week, they will not likely start the opener.
Should Cummings and Tucker remain out for TSU, Chris Traylor will move from left end to right end and Byron Wilson will start at left end.
Maurice Thomas would likely start at cornerback. Thomas, who started the second half of last season when Tucker went down with an injury against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, started the Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship Game.
While Towns was anxious to see Cummings and Tucker, A&M coach Anthony Jones wasn't sure if All-SWAC tight end Charles Moody and wide receiver Thomas Harris would return to practice today.
Moody has been sidelined with a groin injury, and Harris has a dislocated thumb. They have both missed A&M's last two scrimmages.
"I haven't decided on that yet," Jones said when asked if they would return to practice.
