DURHAM, NC -- The Eagles of North Carolina Central University are flying high into Division I transition, as they will host their inaugural women’s volleyball tournament this weekend Aug. 24-25, in the McLendon-McDougald Gymnasium. Teams from the ACC (North Carolina State), MEAC (South Carolina State, Norfolk State), Southern (Elon), MAAC (Loyola, Md.) and the Atlantic Sun (Campbell) are participating in this year’s tournament. This is one of two tournaments that the Eagles will host this season.
The featured match up on Friday has the Eagles of North Carolina Central playing to the Wolfpack of NC State in a prime-time match Friday at 7:00 p.m. NCCU Head Volleyball Coach Georgette Crawford-Crooks is no stranger to NC State, since she served as an assistant coach in the 2004 season. This will be NCCU’s first competition as a Division I institution.
