NSU Opens 2007 Football Practice

Norfolk State University opened its 2007 preseason football camp on Monday.

After going through a series of meetings, physicals and a brief workout Monday evening, the team took to the practice field for its first full-length workout Tuesday morning in t-shirts, shorts and helmets amid sweltering heat and humidity.

Overall, head coach Pete Adrian liked what he saw on the first two days.

"We're in good shape physically and mentally, and we don't have any significant injuries at this point," Adrian said. "Our returners know what to expect and where they're supposed to be, which is always a good sign. And all our players are dedicated to winning."

Thought it's early in camp, Adrian is also pleased with the roughly 30 newcomers on his roster. "We've gotten a lot better physically with this recruiting class," Adrian said.

"We've added a lot of speed and size, but until we see the new players put on pads and react to game situations, it's too early to judge them." Practices continue all week, leading up to the team's first session of two-a-day workouts on Saturday.
