PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas-Fall camp has come to a close and Panther fans can expect to see a talented 2007 Prairie View A&M University football team this season. With the Panthers scheduled showdown against Texas Southern on the horizon Panther head coach Henry Frazier III is happy with what he’s seen out of his team thus far.
“We had a very successful camp with no major injuries,” said Frazier. “I’m extremely pleased that we were able to maintain a very high level of intensity throughout the duration of the camp.”
PVAMU coaching staff and players are hoping that high level of intensity will carry into the Annual State Farm Labor Day Classic.
As a team, the Panthers stepped up their level of play in camp and various players caught Frazier’s attention. Veteran offensive lineman Maurice Robinson, defensive back Edward Moore, and defensive tackle Kingsley Adebusola all had impressive camps.
“Having a veteran team is a plus and our older players have been very positive throughout camp,” said Frazier. “They’ve been great leaders for our younger players to look up to and learn from. Our freshman and transfers adjusted well to our new system. Freshman offensive lineman Ronald DeJohn and place kicker Pedro Ventura were pleasant surprises for me as well as my coaching staff.”
Other players to watch on this year’s team include starting quarterback Chris Gibson, receiver Anthony Weeden, and running back Calvin Harris. On the defensive side of the ball defensive backs Anthony Beck and Val Ford should provide Panther fans with plenty of excitement.
From the looks of it the team appears to be well conditioned and prepared for the road that lies ahead. Now with the completion of a successful training camp under their belts, the Prairie View A&M Panthers are hoping to add to that with a successful season.
Kickoff time for the State Farm Labor Day Classic is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Reliant Stadium on Saturday, September 1st. After their highly anticipated match-up versus TSU the Panthers will travel to Los Angeles, Calif. where they will square off against North Carolina A&T in the Angel City Classic. Tickets for both games can be purchased at the Prairie View A&M University book store.
