South Carolina State practice brief
By: SCSU Sports Information
South Carolina State held its second straight workout in shorts, helmets and shoulder pads Wednesday amid soaring temperatures that Bulldog head coach Buddy Pough said his team was fighting through.
“We are battling the heat,” Pough said. “The heat has taken a toll on some of the players but most of them are getting by pretty well. But, most of all, we are trying to get better.
“We have just about finished installing our material, and now that we have reached that point, we can now begin refining things,” continued Pough. “I see progress, but we have to find a way to deal with the extremely hot weather.
“It’s really, really hot and we have to monitor the players closely”
During the Wednesday afternoon session, which began around 3:30 p.m., Pough’s team continued to emphasize fundamentals and several phases of the kicking game. On Thursday, SC State will put on full gear for the first time, although there will not be full contact drills until Friday when two-a-day drills begin. Thursday’s workout is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
Friday’s drills are set to take place at 8:30 a.m. and 6:50 p.m.
