NCAA penalizes Grambling for academic performance

GRAMBLING, Louisiana -- Joseph Price didn't have to wait long to learn the specific challenges he'll face as Grambling's new men's basketball coach.

Walter Harrison, the NCAA Division-I Committee on Academic Performance, notified Grambling President Frank Pogue on Friday of the committee's decision regarding the Tigers' Academic Progress Rate-related penalties.

Grambling announced Monday five sanctions that include limited practice, a shortened season and a reduction to 10 scholarships.



The Tigers played the 2011-12 season under the third phase of APR penalties, including a postseason ban and reductions to both its schedule and available scholarships.
