HATTIESBURG, Mississippi -- Xavier University of Louisiana's Vinnie Briggs and Ireyon Keith missed season bests in the women's triple jump by less than an inch Friday at the Southern Miss Invitational track and field meet.
Briggs jumped 10.55 meters (34 feet, 7 1/2 inches) to place sixth out of 11 competitors. Keith placed eighth in 10.27 meters (33-8 1/2). Briggs' season best is 10.57 meters, and Keith's best is 10.28.
It was Xavier's only competition during the opening day of the two-day meet. Xavier's women will compete Saturday in six track events and the long jump. Field events will start at 10 a.m. -- the women's long jump is scheduled for 2 p.m. -- and running events will begin at 1:10 p.m. The Gold Nuggets' first track event will be 1,500-meter run at 2:05 p.m.
Xavier's men will not compete.Results
