PINE BLUFF, Arkansas -- Arkansas-Pine Bluff head coach Monte Coleman had a simple response when asked earlier this week how he expected his team to grow from a disappointing loss to Texas Southern in its Southwestern Athletic Conference opener.
“We’re going to leave it behind us,” he said. “We watched the film (Monday); we made our corrections (Monday). For us that game is yesterday, we’re moving on to Alabama A&M.”
That could be easier said than done. While Alabama A&M, which hosts UAPB at 1 p.m. Saturday at Louis Crews Stadium, should pose a significant challenge, despite its current 0-2 (0-1 SWAC) record, it’s hard to let such a heartbreaking defeat go.

“This game hurts,” Coleman said about the 24-20 loss to TSU. “It hurts us as a team, because of the blown opportunities we did have. … We had opportunities that we didn’t capitalize on to win the game, because we did have chances to win the ballgame.
”The missed opportunities included two first-half possessions that ended with three points instead of seven, a fumble by quarterback Marcus Terrell inside the TSU 5-yard line, and an interception in the end zone on the last play of the game.
