Angel, from the Houston suburb of Fulshear, Texas, and a graduate of Seven Lakes High School, is the first Gold Rush athlete to earn All-America in track and field since Clement Owunna in the 110-meter hurdles in 2004.
Florida Memorial's Georges Chery won the event in 2.14 meters/7 feet, one-quarter inch. Chery entered the meet as the No. 2 seed, and Angel was sixth. Top-seeded Qua Stocks of Reinhardt tied for second place with Brandon Ruffin of St. Francis (Ill.) at 2.08 meters/6-9 3/4.
The Gold Rush's other national qualifier, freshman Brandon Matthews, will compete at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in the triple jump.
