Grambling State Lady Tigers Release 2018-19 Schedule

GRAMBLING, Louisiana | The Grambling State University women's basketball head coach Freddie Murrayannounced on Sunday the 2018-19 schedule, which features a two matchups against SEC and Big-12 opponents, along with a trip to Guaynabo, Puerto Rico to compete in the Puerto Rico Classic.
 
"We are excited about the lineup that we have for the upcoming season," Murray said. "It is a very challenging schedule as we play a number of NCAA Division I teams from last season. Our non-conference schedule will definitely prepare us for SWAC conference and beyond."
 
The Lady Tigers, who went 19-14 overall last season and 13-5 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play just one game at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center in 2018. Grambling State's non-conference slate will feature 10 road contests.


 2018-19 Women's Basketball Schedule

The season tips off on Nov. 6 in Auburn, Ala. as Grambling State faces off against SEC foe Auburn. The 2018-19 home opener comes just three days later on Nov. 9 when McNeese State comes to town for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.

After the home opener,  Grambling State will play the next 12 games on the road, starting on Nov. 11 against Southern Miss. The Lady Tigers visit UT-Arlington (Nov. 20) and Alabama (Nov. 23) to conclude the opening month.

Grambling State visits the state of Kansas for two games, starting on Dec. 9 against Big 12 member Kansas and ending the trip at Wichita State (Dec. 11). Four days later, the Black and Gold make a trip to Tampa, Fla. to take on South Florida (Dec. 15).

The Lady Tigers leave the country for three straight games at the Puerto Rico Classic in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. Grambling State will meet South Dakota (Dec. 19), Indiana (Dec. 20) and Loyola Marymount (Dec. 21) before heading home for eight days to celebrate the holiday's.

The final non-conference game is on Dec. 30 in Stillwater, Okla., when the Lady Tigers face off against Oklahoma State.

Grambling State, which won the SWAC Tournament title for the first time in nearly 20 years last year, open up defense of the conference championship on the road when the Lady Tigers make their final trip to the state of Alabama. GSU will meet Alabama State (Jan. 5) and Alabama A&M (Jan. 7) to begin the new year.

For the first time in more than two months, the Lady Tigers will step back onto the court at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center on Jan. 12 as rival Southern comes to town. Alcorn State visits Grambling State on Jan. 14, but following that two-game homestand, the Lady Tigers take to the road to visit Texas Southern (Jan. 19) and Prairie View A&M (Jan. 21).

Grambling State closes out January with a home game against Jackson State (Jan. 26) and begin February with back-to-back home contests against Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Feb. 2) and Mississippi Valley State (Feb. 4).

After two straight road goals against Southern (Feb. 9) and Alcorn State (Feb. 11), Grambling State plays host to Texas Southern (Feb. 16) and Prairie View A&M (Feb. 18). The Lady Tigers conclude February on the road against Jackson State (Feb. 23), followed by road contests at Arkansas-Pine Bluff (March 2) and Mississippi Valley State (March 4).

Grambling State ends the regular season at home as Alabama State (March 7) and Alabama A&M (March 9) visits Grambling, La.

The 2019 SWAC Basketball Tournament is March 12-16, with the top four seeds play host to the opening-round games, before heading to the final four in Birmingham, Ala.
