HBCU Play: AAMU's Robert Mathis a finalist for Black College Football Hall of Fame
ATLANTA, Georgia (Oct. 15, 2018) -- The Black College Football Hall of Fame announced the 25 Finalists for induction into the Class of 2019. Robert Mathis – an alum of Alabama A&M – was among the list of finalist. He is a native of Atlanta, Georgia and attended McNair High School. Mathis, who played for the Bulldogs 1999 -2002, set single season FCS records for forced fumbles (10) and sacks (20) in 2002. He was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in 2003 and played 14 seasons as a defensive end. Mathis finished his NFL career with 123 sacks, 54 forced fumbles, 17 fumble recoveries, 397 tackles, 3 touchdowns and a Super Bowl win in 2006. He is a five-time Pro Bowl player.
