LANGSTON, Oklahoma – Led by a suffocating defense the Langston University women's basketball overwhelmed Jarvis Christian en route to a 87-63 victory on Saturday night at C.F. Gayles Field House.
Langston (2-1) built a 44-29 advantage at halftime before erupting in the third quarter to lead by 31 after Jhordyn Patton (SR/Edmond, Okla.) scored off a Bulldogs turnover and assist from Orionna Shirley (JR/Bellflower, Calif.). Langston pushed their lead to as much as 32 points after Shantrice Picking (SR/Houston, Texas) scored to open the fourth quarter to make it 75-43.
Offensively, the Lady Lions shot .444 percent from the field, converted 20-of-30 free throw attempts while forcing 29 turnovers. The Bulldogs finished at .348 percent on the night and only converted five-of-24 three-point attempts.

Akia Frett (SR/St. Thomas, V.I.) led a sextuple of double-digit scores with 15 points in 25 minutes of action. Jhordyn Patton finished with 14, Alexia Levenston (SO/Madisonville, Texas) and Kaylie Mitchell (FR/Shreveport, La.) both tallied 11 and Tennia Hill (SR/Victorville, Calif.) and Orionna Shirley pumped in 10 points apiece.
Langston is back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at home against Texas College. Tip-off time is set for 5:30 p.m.
