North Carolina A&T State Robinson Announces Major Signing

EAST GREENSBORO – The North Carolina A&T women’s basketball team is looking for even more gold even though they have captured two of the last the last three Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championships.

They took another step toward staying on top in the MEAC and continuing to be one of the top mid-majors in the nation as head coach Tarrell Robinson announced the signing of Ya’Taria Coleman(5-foot-10, guard, Southwind HS, Memphis Lady Mambas AAU, Memphis, Tenn.).
The Aggies will lose one senior from the 2018-19 season in Charnise Tyler but will add two Division I transfers in Jayla Jones-Pack(6-3, forward/center, Seton Hall, Amityville, N.Y.) and Deja Winters(5-11, forward, Seton Hall, Cleveland, Ohio) to go along with the talents of Coleman.

“We are very excited about adding Ya’Taria to the Lady Aggie Basketball family,” said Robinson who has four 20-win seasons in the past six. “She is very aggressive on the court and has the ability to score the ball beyond the 3-point arc. She is an elite scorer but an even better person. Ya’Taria is a stellar student in the classroom and we are glad she chose North Carolina A&T State University.”

Coleman is a two-time all-region performer, a two-time offensive player of the year and a three-time all-tournament team star out of Southwind High School. As a freshman, she averaged 9.3 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.0 steals over 21 games and was named Southwind Freshman of the Year. She followed her freshman season by averaging 11.9 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.3 steals over 24 games as a sophomore.

Southwind went from 13-14 in 2016-17 to 21-12 in 2017-18, Coleman’s junior season, as she posted 13.0 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.1 steals in 28 games played. Coleman is ranked 17thin the state for the class of 2019 according to National Exposure Basketball Report. She is ranked 457thoverall by All-Star Girls Report Basketball.

Coleman was named Shelby County Interscholastic Athletic Scholar-Athlete of the Month. With Jones-Pack and Winters, the Aggies have the 57thbest recruiting class according to All-Star Girls Report Basketball.
