Howard Bison Football To Play Harvard on Oct.5, 2019

Football Announces 2019 Schedule

Harvard is reporting the game will be broadcast on ESPN+. The upcoming season will be the 146th campaign of Harvard Crimson Football.

The upcoming season will be the 126th campaign of the Howard Bison football program that started in 1893.

The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and the Ivy League have never meet on the gridiron. Both leagues play in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).  The Bison joined the MEAC in 1970. The MEAC became an NCAA Division I conference on June 8, 1980.

The Ivy League does not participant in the NCAA FCS Championship Playoffs.  The MEAC champion is slated to play the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) champion in the Air Force Reserve Celebration Bowl in Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta, Georgia.  The game is nationally televised on the ABC Network.  Harvard has no playoff opportunities based upon the Ivy League not participating in the NCAA FCS post-season football playoffs.

Indeed, this symbolic game will continue to raise the brand of MEAC football and hopefully, encourage further scholarly discussions with Harvard and its ongoing efforts to understand its history and the legacy of slavery at the University.  We look forward to this defining moment in HBCU football history as the Howard Bison takes on the Harvard Crimson.
