NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana produced 1-2 finishes in the women's and men's 10,000-meter runs Wednesday during the opening session of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Tad Gormley Stadium.XULA's Taylor Price and Maliya Vaughan were the first two finishers in the women's 10K, and Shane Buchanan and Ghassan Alansi priduced the same results for the Gold Rush in the men's 10K.
XULA's Evan Simmons placed third in the men's hammer throw.
The top three finishers in each event earn All-GCAC recognition.
Price's title was her seventh in the GCAC. She was the cross country individual champion in 2016 and 2018, and the 10K victory was her fifth on the track.
The second and final day of the meet will start at 9 a.m. Thursday with the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Competition has been pushed up because of the rain storms expected in th afternoon. The final event, the 1,600 relay, will start at 2:45 p.m., two hours earlier than originally scheduled.
