Democrats won the House and Senate. For HBCUs, that pulls two fights into the same room: federal funding and the Protect College Sports Act. The bill’s HBCU grant program, up to $900 million over five years, is only authorized. It still needs the same spending bills that fund the $406 million HBCUs get now. And the employee status fight changes too. MEAC Commissioner Sonja Stills: “We cannot have student athletes as employees. That would be the demise of HBCU athletes as we see them today.” With the Congressional Black Caucus in the House majority, the ban the SWAC and MEAC want is a much harder sell. https://t.co/hArLZfneh0
