Baltimore Ravens Harewood gets feet wet at LT
Baltimore, MD - Ramon Harewood lining up at left tackle in the Ravens’ 31-13 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs Friday night might not qualify as news – except that was the first time he had played that position since being selected by the organization in the sixth round last year.
“It is what it is,” said Harewood, who last played left tackle at Morehouse College. “You’ve got to roll with the punches sometimes.”
The 6-foot-6, 340-pound Harewood didn’t commit any glaring mistakes in the second half against the Chiefs, but the second-year player wasn’t about to pat himself on the back.
“I’m never satisfied,” he said Friday night. “There’s always room for improvement, but for a first day, I think it was ...

Former Alcornite and Titans' QB McNair pays visit to UTM
MARTIN, TN - The University of Tennessee-Martin football team has almost finished its first week of practice, and the Skyhawks already got their first big surprise of the season Wednesday. Former Tennessee Titans and Baltimore Ravens quarterback Steve McNair showed up at practice and gave the team a pep talk before they hit the field.
"It is the work you put in now that determines if you are ready to make that final play in the fourth quarter when it counts," the former NFL co-MVP told the team. McNair was in town visiting his two nephews: Jason and Julius McNair, who are both freshmen for the Skyhawks' football team this year.
UTM head coach Jason Simpson said having McNair, who finished third in the voting for the Heisman Trophy in 1994 despite only playing at the I-AA level at Alcorn State, was good for his team early in fall camp.

Former DSU's McCants hopes to stick with team No. 6
Darnerien McCants--multitalented professional artist who can compose, play and sing music, as well as paint and design. See more of McCants works at: http://www.darnerien.com
WESTMINSTER, Md. -- Darnerien McCants could have given up by now, and maybe he should have given up by now. And he would have given up by now, except for one thing. "I still dream about it," he said. "And I figure that as long as I dream about it, I've got to chase it."
In that dream, he makes a spectacular catch in the end zone in a big game, maybe even a Super Bowl. It's a dream that's kept him going the past eight years, with six different teams in four different leagues.
Team No. 6 is the Baltimore Ravens, whom McCants joined just five days ago. McCants, one of the best receivers in Delaware State history, hadn't played much football since he was released by the Eagles in training camp in 2006.

Kids work with former MVP Steve McNair
A chance to learn some life lessons and brush up on some football skills, all while brushing shoulders with a local legend, brought some 700 youngsters out on a scorching-hot morning. The 10th annual Steve Air McNair Football Camp drew a large, enthusiastic crowd Friday to the University of Southern Mississippi campus, where the focus was on more than just football.
"We have a lot of people here talking about alcohol, drugs and crime," McNair said. "We touch a little of everything to try to get kids on the right track. It's about life. You can't succeed on the field if your life is not on track. Football comes second to that."
This is the first year the camp, which was free of charge, has come to the USM campus, after previously being held at Gulf Coast Community College, Alcorn State and in Nashville, Tenn., where McNair played for the Tennessee Titans.

Alcorn's Steve McNair left lasting impression
Where do I start in talking about former Alcorn State quarterback Steve McNair, who announced his retirement from the Baltimore Ravens last week? The many last-second wins at Henderson Stadium and then Jack Spinks Stadium where a concert-like crowd was treated to another rock-star type performance?
Steve McNair NFL Retirement Speech
The guy who went from saying maybe four sentences a game following a game his freshman year to a go who talked with ease with the country smile when he was a senior? The guy who played through so much pain and through so many injuries that bandage companies probably lost revenue after he left town?
