Stillman drops homecoming game to Concordia

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama | The Stillman football team could not pull out a victory Saturday, losing a close game to the Concordia-Selma Hornets 12-7 on homecoming. It was also a homecoming of sorts for former Stillman coach and Concordia defensive coordinator L.C. Cole, whose defense held Stillman to just 115 yards and forced two turnovers.

“We don’t sit back, we bring that heat,” Cole said. “We try to get the quarterback disturbed a little bit, our goal was to contain him, and I think we did just that.”

Stillman got the scoring started on its opening possession behind a strong rushing attack. After long runs by Carlos Wilson and Deandre Holley, quarterback Dondre Purnell took the ball in for a touchdown from 6 yards out on third-and-goal.

Exama leads GSU to 35-0 homecoming win

Saturday was homecoming for Grambling, but one of the happiest fans at Eddie Robinson Stadium might have been a visitor attending her first game of the season. The Concordia Hornets showed early they should not be taken as lightly as the 82-7 rout in the teams' previous meeting might indicate.

Walker, Warren pace Grambling

GRAMBLING — Cornelius Walker and Frank Warren combined for 189 yards rushing and each scored a touchdown Saturday as Grambling State shut out Concordia College 35-0.

Warren ran for 92 yards, including a 23-yard touchdown, and Walker had 97 yards with a 4-yard scoring run for the Tigers (8-1), who have won eight games in a row. Grambling, a Division I Football Championship Subdivision school, outgained Concordia, an NCAA Division II school, 329-60 in total yardage.
