S.C. State Bulldogs hold on for 30-22 victory over N.C. A&T

Orangeburg, South Carolina -- "Seniors Day" for Devonne Quattlebaum and his fellow 17 South Carolina State honorees was not going according to form Saturday at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium.

With the Bulldogs down 11 points to North Carolina A&T in the first half, the senior DOG safety was determined to change things in his fellow seniors' favor during their final home game.

"At the moment, I was talking to my guy (linebacker) Donovan Richard," he said. "I told him either me or you were going to make a play, so one of us had to make a play."

It was Quattlebaum who reached out to intercept Aggies' quarterback Lewis Kindle and returned the football 55 yards for the touchdown. He injured his hamstring on the score and did not return to action, but ignited a rally of 30 unanswered points for S.C. State, which held on for a 30-22 victory before 16,224 fans.

S.C. State Hands A&T Another Disappointing Loss

ORANGEBURG, S.C. - As Norfolk State turned the fortunes of its program around on Saturday by clinching its first-ever MEAC football title, a North Carolina A&T team looking to change its losing image this season could only sit back and think about what could have been.

Coming through on a 1st-and-goal at the 3-yard line, making a catch in the end zone or converting in the final seconds, and the Aggies might be celebrating an historic season. Instead, they lost another close one on Saturday.

S.C. State came back from an 11-point deficit and won its 11th straight over the Aggies with a 30-22 victory at Oliver C. Stadium Saturday afternoon. S.C. State head coach Buddy Pough remained undefeated (10-0) against the Aggies.

"I don't think we've accomplished anything this season," said N.C. A&T head coach Rod Broadway. "Here we are sitting at 4-6 even though we had an opportunity to have a really good football team. But we're not coached well enough and we don't play well enough. But we're going to get this fixed."

One of Broadway's main concerns is the Aggies inability to score points. For the third straight week, the Aggies offense failed to score any second-half points. Playing without starting running back Mike Mayhew most of the game didn't help matters.

N.C. A&T's defense gave the Aggies a chance as safety Travis Crosby intercepted quarterback Richard Cue's pass and returned it 55 yards to put the Aggies within eight with 12 minutes remaining. But the Aggies could not advance the football beyond the S.C. State 43.

The Aggies last attempt started at its own 20. After two completions to Demonta Brown, quarterback Lewis Kindle's last-second effort to Larry Raper only went 19 yards as the Aggies (4-6, 3-4) dropped their fourth straight.

N.C. A&T coach gets reprimand, will face S.C. State from pressbox

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Rod Broadway sounded like a frustrated head football coach Tuesday morning. Just three weeks ago, he had North Carolina A&T among the leaders in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in his first season at the helm. After three straight competitive road losses, the Aggies (4-5, 3-3) find themselves in danger of finishing under .500 for the eight consecutive year with a loss Saturday at South Carolina State (5-4, 4-2).

"We're getting so close, but we can't close the deal," Broadway said during the MEAC teleconference.

The news only got worse for Broadway later in the day when the conference announced he was being reprimanded for displaying unsportsmanlike conduct during the Aggies' 26-20 loss at Florida A&M. In the statement, MEAC Commissioner Dennis Thomas said "the conference expects all student-athletes, coaches and athletic staff to demonstrate good sportsmanship before, during and after all athletic events."

Scouting North Carolina A&T
North Carolina A&T went 15-17 last season and return four starters and nine lettermen from that group. The loss, however, is a big one, as Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference performer Thomas Coleman and his 17.0 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.7 blocked shots per game are gone.

Leading the returners is a pair of double-figure scorers in the backcourt, Nic Simpson (13.3 ppg.) and Marc Hill (10.8 ppg., 3.1 apg.). Both men made 50 or more three-pointers last season as well. Other returning starters include forwards Adrian Powell (8.1 ppg., 4.1 rpg.) and Austin Witter (5.7 ppg., 0.8 bpg.). The Aggies are picked seventh of 13 teams in the preseason MEAC poll.

Scouting Creighton
Creighton returns 10 lettermen and three starters from last year’s 23-16 team that reached the championship series of the College Basketball Invitational. CU beat Rockhurst, 81-42, in their only exhibition last Sunday.

After leading the team in scoring (14.9 ppg.) and rebounding (7.2 rpg.) as a freshman, sophomore forward Doug McDermott enters the 2011-12 season with preseason all-MVC and All-America hype.

The other two returning starters, senior guard Antoine Young (13.1 ppg., 5.0 apg.) and junior center Gregory Echenique (10.5 ppg., 5.8 rpg., 1.8 bpg.), are honorable-mention preseason all-Valley selections as well.
Creighton has eight men on the roster who did not see the floor a season ago, highlighted by junior Gonzaga transfer Grant Gibbs and redshirt freshman Will Artino. Among Creighton’s talented freshman class are Austin Chatman, Avery Dingman, Geoff Groselle and Nevin Johnson.

The Coaches
Greg McDermott (Northern Iowa, 1988) is entering his second season as head coach at Creighton, after leading the Jays to a 23-16 mark last year. McDermott has previously been a head coach at Iowa State (2006-10), Northern Iowa (2001-06), North Dakota State (2000-01) and Wayne State (1994-2000). He owns a career mark of 303-211 in 17 previous seasons and is 172-147 in 10 previous Division I campaigns. McDermott is assisted by Darian DeVries, Steve Lutz and Steve Merfeld.

Jerry Eaves (Louisville, 1986) enters his ninth season at North Carolina A&T, where his 87-160 record also doubles as his career mark. He’s assisted by Phillip Stitt, Scott Bollwage and Walter Booth.

Pough prepared for tougher N.C. A&T team

Orangburg, South Carolina -- It seems like ancient history to Buddy Pough now.

On Nov. 22, 2003, the fortunes of South Carolina State and North Carolina A&T took a precipitous turn. The Aggies had just clinched the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference title, while the Bulldogs were looking for their third straight win in the long-running series.

S.C. State routed North Carolina A&T 49-9 that day in Charlotte and the two programs began to head in opposite directions. The Bulldogs have gone on to post a 67-23 record and win four MEAC titles while making three Football Championship Subdivision playoff appearances. The Aggies have had four head coaches combine for a 20-70 mark during that span.

Despite the recent history of dominance, Pough does not see it playing a major role in the outcome of Saturday's latest matchup at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium.

Success by North Carolina A&T Aggies turning heads

Tallahassee, Florida -- When North Carolina A&T won three straight MEAC games to start conference play, it raised more than a few eyebrows — especially since one of the wins came over defending champion Bethune-Cookman.

The Aggies have since lost two straight, but remain one of seven teams in the hunt for the conference title. That in itself could be considered a major achievement for a team that had just one victory last season.

First-year coach Rod Broadway stopped short of calling it a turnaround earlier this week, but said he's seen plenty of signs that N.C. A&T (4-4, 3-2) is on the right path. And it's happening with only 30 scholarship players.

"We got some kids who want to do well," Broadway said. "They want to be successful (and) we've got to teach them how to win and now how to finish."

Howard wins its homecoming game; A&T Aggies one yard short

Washington, D.C. -- Howard’s defense stopped North Carolina A&T quarterback Lewis Kindle a yard short of the end zone in overtime to give the Bison a 35-28 victory Saturday, only their second win in their last six homecoming games.

After the Bison (4-4, 3-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) scored on Terrence Leffall’s three-yard run on the first possession of overtime, the Aggies (4-3, 3-1) picked up a couple of first downs to reach the Howard 3-yard line.

Two incompletions and a one-yard loss on a Mike Mayhew run left them with a fourth and four, and Kindle was stopped by defensive end Sackie Kerkulah after a three-yard gain.

Aggies fall 1 yard short in overtime

WASHINGTON -- Lewis Kindle knelt on the 1-yard line Saturday afternoon, as a few Howard defenders and some fans danced in the end zone. Minutes earlier, the N.C. A&T quarterback had been stopped short on a fourth-and-goal run and Howard escaped with a 35-28 overtime win on homecoming.

"We had a pass play called and they had it covered pretty well," Kindle said. "I thought I could get in." He couldn't. And the Aggies (4-3, 3-1 MEAC) couldn't match Terrance Leffall's 3-yard TD run in overtime that won it for Howard (4-4, 3-2).

"A&T made a big play on third down," Bison coach Gary Harrell said, "and had four downs to get in."
But Howard's defense forced an incomplete pass on third down at the 3, and then Kindle was stopped 1 yard short on fourth down.

North Carolina A&T Aggies, Howard Bison Renew Rivalry in D.C.

Greensboro, North Carolina -- Over the last six seasons, Howard and North Carolina A&T have stumbled to the bottom of the MEAC standings. Howard has not had a winning season since 2004 and the Aggies last winning season occurred in 2003. Over the previous six seasons, the two teams have combined to go 29-104.

In the same time frame, S.C. State is 52-18. But the trends are changing for both schools.

The Aggies and the Bison were picked to finish 9th and 11th respectively in the conference during the preseason, but the Aggies are 3-0 in the MEAC and the Bison is 2-2 with a win over MEAC co-champion Florida A&M. Perhaps the reasons behind the turnarounds are the two first-year head coaches. Rod Broadway is in his first season as the Aggies head coach, while Gary Harrell took over it is alma mater.

The Polls

As the wins continue to pour in, North Carolina A&T is starting to be recognized nationally. In this week's Sports Network Top 25 Poll, the Aggies received four votes. The Aggies entered the Sheridan Broadcasting Network Poll for the first time in seven years this week as the No. 9 team. The SBN Poll traditionally determines who the Black College National Champion is. The Aggies last won the title in 1999.

A&T defensive challenge awaits Delaware State Hornets

DOVER, Delaware -- Delaware State's football team did not make its last scheduled trip to North Carolina A&T. Instead, the Hornets forfeited the 2009 game because they scheduled a trip to play at the University of Michigan that same weekend. DSU lost that game 63-6 but earned more than $500,000 in the process.

Since those days, DSU has added a new athletic director in Derek Carter, a new head football coach in Kermit Blount and a renewed commitment to being a member of the MEAC. This afternoon, Delaware State (2-4, 0-3 in the MEAC) tries to stop a four-game losing streak when it visits North Carolina A&T (3-2, 2-0) at Aggie Stadium in Greensboro, N.C.

"I've been saying all along that this thing is going to turn and we're just not an inch, a half-inch, a quarter-inch, we're maybe a 16th-of-an-inch from being able to flip it around and make something real positive happen," Blount said.

B-CU not taking N.C. A&T lightly

Daytona Beach, Florida -- Gearing up for his team's first out-of-state game this season, Bethune-Cookman coach Brian Jenkins turned up the coach-speak earlier this week.

"We're going into dangerous territory -- Aggie Land -- and we're going up against a scrappy, fierce football team," Jenkins said of today's opponent, North Carolina A&T. When asked about the Aggies' improvement under first-year coach Rod Broadway, Jenkins said, "I thought they were a pretty good football team last year."

But the Wildcats (2-2, 1-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) thumped A&T last year, 67-17, in a game more famous for the Municipal Stadium power outage during an ESPNU Thursday night broadcast than the action on the field.

Given the one-sided result, it's probably no surprise the cable network passed on the matchup this season. The 1:30 p.m. game today in Greensboro, N.C., will be the first time this season the Wildcats will not be on TV.

North Carolina A&T Aggies put up strong defense

BALTIMORE, MD - North Carolina A&T used a stingy defense, three blocked field goals and big running plays from Mike Mayhew to earn a 24-3 conference win over Morgan State at Hughes Stadium on Saturday.

The Aggies defense held Morgan State to 33 yards rushing, while Mayhew finished with a career-high 233 yards rushing and one touchdown. It was their first win over Morgan State in six years and their first win at Hughes Stadium since 2003. The win also marked the Aggies (2-2, 1-0 MEAC) first road win since beating Howard in Washington, D.C., two years ago.

"All wins our big wins at this stage in our program," said N.C. A&T head coach Rod Broadway. "This is the first time in a long time we've defeated Morgan, so it's going to be a nice bus ride home. But we've got to continue to get better. We missed out on a lot of opportunities today."

In a twist of irony, Morgan State's inability to take advantage of opportunities to score touchdowns early allowed N.C. A&T to gain some confidence defensively. On the game's first play, a Lewis Kindle interception gave the Bears (2-3, 1-1) the ball at the Aggies 16-yard line.

The Bears minus-10-yard drive was highlighted by a Travis Crosby sack. Ervin Gonzalez booted a 43-yard field goal to give the Bears a 3-0 lead. Morgan State's good field position would be a trend that would continue throughout the first quarter. Three of the Bears first four drives started in Aggies territory. The one drive that did not start in Aggies territory, started at the Bears 48 after a Kindle fumble.

Each MSU good fortune was met with an Aggies rebuff. Mayhew finally turned the field position in N.C. A&T's favor late in the first quarter. A 12-yard run helped the N.C. A&T move the ball from in front of its own goal line. Mayhew then sprinted down the sideline for a 78-yard touchdown run, the longest of his career.

Morgan State Band @ Collegiate Marching Band Festival 9/25/2011, Allentown, Pennsylvania

"Once I got off the bus today, I was feeling it," said Mayhew. "I was in that zone. My offensive line stepped up today. (Offensive line coach Keith Wagner) told us all week it was time for a 100-yard game. We've been slacking the first three games, so I'm glad we got it going today."

Saturday marked Mayhew's second career 200-yard performance. His showing also put him 17 yards shy of the 2,000-yard mark for his career. But it was the Aggies defense that allowed the Aggies to keep a comfortable lead.

After stopping the Bears on 4th-and-1 from the Aggies 47 to open the second quarter, Jose Garcia-Camacho hit a 35-yard field goal to give the Aggies a 10-3 lead. Morgan State answered by putting together its best drive of the game, a 9-play, 50-yard march that led to a 41-yard field goal attempt.

But a bobbled snap led to Terence Webb blocking the kick. With the Aggies defense playing so well, the game was put away on a 47-yard touchdown pass from Kindle to Larry Raper to close out the first half.

"We started the game in the hole with an interception and the defense held them to three," said Broadway. "I thought that set the tone. I think we gave up one 3rd down-and-14 today, but overall we were great on third down."

Senior Justin Ferrell had two blocked kicks and an interception. Brandon Hover finished with 10 tackles and a 31-yard interception return. N.C. A&T's last two wins over Morgan State has included a 200-yard rusher. Brandon Sweeney ran for 205 yards in 2005.

The Aggies return home next week to host Bethune-Cookman at 1:30 p.m.

A&T football: 'Bargain' coach battles history in rebuilding effort

Baltimore, MD - N.C. A&T begins another MEAC football season tomorrow afternoon on the road against Morgan State. Last year’s coach, Alonzo Lee, will work the opposite sideline in Baltimore as the Bears defensive coordinator. Lee was fired last November after a 1-10 season. He was 6-16 in two years with the Aggies.

Rod Broadway was hired a few days after national signing day in February. It was the latest in a line of changes at A&T.

In the late 1990s Edward Fort (18 years on the job) was the chancellor, Bill Hayes (15 years) the football coach and Willie Burden (eight years) the athletics director. Recent history makes the length of their tenures seem like an eternity

In the last 12 years, A&T has gone through five chancellors, five football head coaches and nine athletics directors. And beginning with Hayes’ final season in 2002, the Aggies’ football team has finished with a losing record eight times in the last nine years, going 29-74 (.282 winning percentage). They haven’t won a homecoming game since 2003.

Improved North Carolina A&T Aggies lose game, but win respect

Greensboro, NC -- Coastal Carolina hosts N.C. A&T next season in the final meeting of their second home-and-home series. Don’t bet on a renewal of the series after that.

“You hired a guy away from Grambling who won nine games there last year?” Coastal coach David Bennett drawled, shaking his head. “Shoot. After next year, we won’t be scheduling them. They’re going to get it right. I promise you. I just hope they’re two years away.”

Bennett’s Chanticleers led wire-to-wire in their 31-14 victory over A&T in a less-than-half-full Aggie Stadium on Saturday. But short-handed A&T is a better football team than it was three weeks ago, when the Aggies trounced start-up Virginia University of Lynchburg.

The 9,709 who paid to get in saw the Aggies shuffle their offensive line and struggle to protect quarterback Lewis Kindle. They saw a tiring defense give up too many big plays and 354 total yards.

North Carolina A&T Aggies Volleyball Lose to Rival NCCU

DURHAM, NC - The volleyball match between North Carolina A&T and N.C. Central on Friday night had all the ingredients of a rivalry crowd. The crowd at McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium was charged up with the Aggies in town.

Both teams had some exciting exchanges, and as typical in Aggies versus Eagles contests, the match included an interesting twist. The Eagles got the best of the Aggies with a 3-0 (25-14,15, 17) win. Jeana Daniels led the Aggies with seven kills. Emanuelle Santos and Shantal Moore had 12 and 11 kills respectively.

It was the first win of the season for the Eagles (1-12, 1-0). The Aggies dropped to 0-16 as they lost their first MEAC match of the season. The Aggies played without sophomore Tatiana Cooper who was out with an illness.

"I thought we played very well considering we had to make some last minute adjustments," said N.C. A&T head coach Hal Clifton. "We did much better even though we still made some unforced errors."

Although Clifton wants fewer errors, the Aggies put together a season-high .119 hitting percentage, while compiling 22 kills. It was the Aggies' highest total since recording 24 kills against Coastal Carolina on Aug. 26.

Coastal Defeats North Carolina A&T, 31-14, to Improve to 3-1

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Aramis Hillary threw two touchdown passes to Matt Hazel and one to Marcus Whitener to lead Coastal Carolina to a 31-14 win over North Carolina A&T Saturday afternoon at Aggie Stadium.

With the win, the Chanticleers improve to 3-1 on the season, the team's best start since opening the 2005 season with the same mark. It is the third time in this the program's ninth year the tam has started 3-1, also accomplishing the feat in 2004.

Hillary finished with 255 passing yards, completing 18-of-24 passes with the three scores and no interceptions. Hazel was his top target, catching six passes for 92 yards. With 5:12 left in the first quarter, Coastal got on the scoreboard with a 40-yard Grant Clayton field goal. The score was set-up thanks to a 24-yard Hillary to Hazel completion.

Coastal's offense got on track midway through the second quarter and, facing third and goal, Hillary capped a seven-play, 56-yard drive by hitting Hazel on a 10-yard fade in the left corner. Grant Clayton tacked on the extra point for a 10-0 Chanticleer lead.

On the ensuing possession, Coastal's defense forced a three-and-out. On the Aggie punt, Dushawn Davis blocked the kick, giving the Chants the ball on the N.C. A&T 44. Back-to-back 18-yard and seven-yard completions from Hillary-to-Chris Presley and a nine Hillary run put the Chants in scoring position. Travis Small finished the drive with a three-yard run over left tackle for his first career TD. Clayton's point after led to a 17-0 CCU advantage.

VUL opener helps and hurts North Carolina A&T

Greensboro, NC - In the eyes of the NCAA, it's a game that never happened. But the leg injuries to N.C. A&T wide receiver Torrian Warren and tailback Mike Mayhew certainly happened.

And so, too, did the breakout games of starting quarterback Lewis Kindle and Ricky Lewis, the backup quarterback who lined up as a slot receiver and flat-out torched the defense of a start-up football program playing its first game in 78 years.

A&T won the first game of the Rod Broadway era, defeating Virginia University of Lynchburg 38-7 on a sultry Saturday at Aggie Stadium. The 11,659 who paid to see it can testify it happened.

Kindle threw four touchdown passes and scored a fifth on a 1-yard quarterback sneak -- although the NCAA won't recognize the stats because VUL is not a member institution. The Dragons are in the application process, hoping to someday rejoin the CIAA, a league they left in 1933.

In the here and now, the Dragons helped A&T. And they hurt A&T.

North Carolina A&T Names Sanchez Head Baseball Coach

Head Baseball Coach Joel Sanchez
(Courtesy: NC A&T Sports Information)
GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina A&T Director of Athletics Earl Hilton announced the appointment of Joel Sanchez to be the new head baseball coach. Sanchez joins the Aggie family with extensive coaching and playing experience on the collegiate and professional levels.

"Coach Sanchez has what I call 'championship experience,'" said Hilton. "He spent numerous years learning what it takes to win championships on a consistent basis. We are excited about blending his winning knowhow with what we believe is already an outstanding baseball program."

Prior to joining N.C.A&T, Sanchez held the assistant baseball coaching position at Daytona State College for one season in 2011.

The bulk of Sanchez's coaching success came during his eight seasons (2001-08) at Bethune-Cookman University, where he served as the head assistant under Mervyl Melendez. During his stint at B-CU, the Wildcats earned seven MEAC Championships, and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Regional each time.

Sanchez's coaching experience is not limited to college baseball. He served as the minor league pitching coach for the Gulf Coast League Nationals, the rookie-level minor league affiliate of the Washington Nationals in 2010; and the Vermont Lake Monsters, the short-season level-A affiliate of the Nationals in 2009. He was responsible pitching staff of each team.

As a player, Sanchez played professionally with the Ciudad Juarez of Chihuahua, Mexico from 1997-1999. He was a two-year letterman at New Mexico State University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in psychology in 1998.

Sanchez replaces Keith Shumate, who resigned in July after 15 seasons with the Aggies. Austin Love will remain as an assistant for the program.

Broadway ready to play

Greenboro, NC - Another coaching era has started at N.C. A&T. This time, Rod Broadway, who left Grambling State, has been charged with trying to resurrect one of the most underachieving programs in the MEAC.

N.C. A&T has gone a combined 25-66 since Bill Hayes was fired after the 2002 season. The Aggies were 1-10 last season, with losses to rivals Winston-Salem State and N.C. Central, and the Alonzo Lee era ended abruptly after only two seasons.

"Well if you keep replacing the same part on your car, and it still keeps breaking down, then that part might not be the problem," Broadway said of the task ahead. "What we're trying to do is find the root of the problem, make it better, so that the entire athletics department can be successful."

Former N.C. A&T Aggie Playing in the Pros

Burlington, Vermont - Xavier Macklin, former A&T outfielder and hitting machine, is slowly but surely beginning to prove he belongs in the big leagues.

The new professional was drafted in his junior season by the Vermont Lake Monsters, a Single-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics. He was selected 376th overall in the 12th round of the 2011 First-Year Major League Baseball Player Draft.

"Playing with the Lake Monsters has been a great experience," said Macklin. "I've been meeting new people, getting to know my teammates, and playing a bunch of baseball. I love every minute of it."

The Vermont Lake Monsters currently have a 32-28 overall record, with Macklin playing in 41 of those games. He is averaging just .233 batting, and has 12 RBI total, 8 runs total, and no homeruns, but he continues to show gradual improvement ...

Death at North Carolina A&T shifts culture

A&T Athletics Director Earl Hilton
GREENSBORO, N.C. — A year removed from a student death on its track, N.C. A&T is updating its athletics policies and boosting its oversight of coaches and efforts to keep athletes safe, even as it prepares for possible litigation after the death of Jospin “Andre” Milandu.  If a lawsuit against the school or its former employees is filed, it could cost the state up to $10 million — just one potential cost of Milandu’s death on Aug. 19, 2010.

“Well-meaning, good-intentioned people in the past have made decisions based on other things than health and safety of the athletes,” said Earl Hilton, athletics director at A&T. “That’s not a shift in perspective that I think is helpful.”

Meanwhile, the family struggles with the emotional cost of losing a son. “In the past, they thought they would be better a year later,” said the family’s attorney, Frank Johns. “They are struggling with this loss.” Johns spoke on behalf of family members, who did not want to comment.

Hilton said he is reviewing athletics department procedures with other high-level A&T staff members to avoid preventable deaths. He’s putting more staff and money toward athlete safety.

North Carolina A&T Aggies Sign Interchangeable Parts

GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina A&T head men's basketball coach Jerry Eaves didn't attempt to replace 6-foot-9 first-team All-MEAC superstar Thomas Coleman because it is hard to replace 17.0 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. Instead, Eaves decided to replace the Aggies style of play.

On Friday, Eaves released the rest of his 2011 recruiting class with all four players being either 6-6 or 6-7. The class includes Anthony Estes (6-7, 195, Washington, D.C.), Waylan Siverand (6-7, 220, Houston, Texas), Simon Barres (6-6, 212, Paris, France) and Jordan Herrera (6-6, 210, Silver Spring, Md.). Earlier this year, the Aggies announced the signing of Jean Louisme (6-4, 205, Fort Myers, Fla.) to bring the Aggies recruiting class total to five.

"There are going to be times this season when every guy on the floor is going to be 6-6," said Eaves. "This is going to help us match up with athletic teams in our league like Hampton. There are going to be points in the game where everyone on the floor for us can handle the ball, and everyone on the floor for us can guard three or four positions."

Estes attended Brisbane Academy in Charlotte. As a senior, he averaged 18.0 points and 12.0 rebounds. Estes also played at Our Savior in New York. He is an inside/outside player who can post and shoot the 15-footer.

"He wants to bang," said Eaves. "He is probably the most aggressive young man I have ever recruited. He can really put the ball on the floor and attack."

Siverand is gifted athletically and academically. He attended Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, N.H. In the classroom, Siverand graduated with a 3.6 grade point average. As a postgraduate for Kimball Union, he started all 26 games and averaged 12.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game. He graduated from Hightower High School in Houston in 2009. Siverand gets off the floor quickly, runs extremely well and has tremendous length.

"He is a super smart young man," said Eaves. "By far, he is the best athlete I have ever recruited. With this young man, our pressure defense is back. He is long, athletic and can jump out of the gym. He just has to learn how to play on this level."

Barres played in various places in Europe before finishing his prep career at Evelyn Mack Academy in Charlotte. There, he averaged 11.0 points and 7.0 rebounds.

"He is mature young man and player with a nice body and nice range," said Eaves. "He has a European-style game to him where he can step out and hit the three, the medium-range jump shot and he can put the ball on the floor."

Jordan Herrera attended Cloud Community College for one season after attending Hesston Junior College. At Cloud, he averaged 11.0 points and 5.0 rebounds. As a prep standout, he attended Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School.

"On defense, he anticipates well," said Eaves. "He wants to steal the ball to get dunks and layups. He is 6-6, but he is long and active."
