Desmore hits winner for WSSU

WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina -- One of the longest days in Winston-Salem State athletics history ended with another victory.

After the football team won its final regular-season game, the basketball team followed with an exciting 76-73 win against Concord in the final game of the Big House Gaines Tip-Off Classic on Saturday night. Tyre Desmore’s 25 foot 3-pointer with 1.5 seconds left made the difference, and the Rams improved to 2-0.

Making the win more emotional for the Rams was the absence of Coach Bobby Collins, was in Southern Pines for his father’s funeral. Keith Collins died last week at the age of 79.

"We wanted this one bad for Coach, and he’s pretty tough, and what he’s going through isn’t easy," said Desmore, who took the winning shot after the original play broke down.
