FAMU's run at MEAC Tournament comes to end

WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina — For 33 minutes Friday night it seemed the magical run by the Florida A&M men's basketball team would continue. Then, the Rattlers went cold.

The slide that ended the most impressive postseason run by a FAMU team since 2007 lasted through the final 8 minutes and left the Rattlers beaten 58-46 by Norfolk State in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference semifinal game. The Spartans will face Bethune-Cookman today for the conference title and an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.

FAMU reached the final four by pulling off two upsets. Until its shooting went south, it seemed the Rattlers were on the verge of scoring what would have been their biggest victory of the season.

"Unfortunately we lost a good one, and to be honest with you we lost to a better team," FAMU's first-year coach Clemon Johnson said. "They seemed to have to put the ball in the hole when they needed one. We came up short."
