Cleveland Classic: Winston-Salem dominates Tuskegee, 35-13
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Tuskegee scored a touchdown on the very first play from scrimmage Saturday at the 2013 Cleveland Classic at FirstEnergy Stadium. For the rest of the game, it was all Winston-Salem State.
The Rams, 19th-ranked in Division II, improved to 2-1 with five unanswered touchdowns – two in the first quarter and two in the third quarter – with a 35-13 win over the 17th-ranked Golden Tigers (2-1), handing Tuskegee its first loss.
“We played well in all three aspects – offense, defense and special teams,” Winston-Salem coach Connell Maynor said. “We gave up that first big play, but we recovered and played Ram defense the rest of the way. Offensively, we established ourselves with two long drives for scores, and I think that kind of changed the momentum and changed the tone of the game.”
The Rams gained 222 yards on the ground and 245 yards through the air, outgaining Tuskegee 467-286.
