ORANGEBURG, South Carolina -- A family cried out in grief Saturday as a man accused of killing a South Carolina State University football player appeared before a judge.

“I would have given my life for him. Why didn’t he take me?” one woman said during the hearing.

S.C. State industrial engineering technology major Brandon Robinson died Friday after being shot.

After a manhunt that drew in the assistance of several agencies, 19-year-old Justin Bernard Singleton of Charleston was arrested early Saturday morning.
