BATON ROUGE, Louisiana -- Jogging out to practice at A.W. Mumford Stadium seems eerie for Southern redshirt freshman quarterback Deonte Shorts.
Although he talks or texts with departed quarterback Dray Joseph nearly every day, Shorts said the first spring without Joseph in pads still strikes him as weird.
But while Joseph — Southern’s all-time leader in touchdown passes — won’t throw another ball or don the blue and gold, he’s still invested in the success of the position he left vacant.
“Be yourself on the field,” Joseph tells Shorts. “Show them boys the right way and lead them in the right direction.”
