BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- Fort Valley State held on for a 71-69 victory over Miles in the first round of the SIAC Women's Basketball Tournament in Bill Harris Arena at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
Fort Valley led 36-32 at the half. The Wildcats several times pushed the lead to seven points only to see the Golden Bears pull close again.
Carmenonique Dawson led a balanced Fort Valley (13-14) attack with 11 points; Shytina Harley, Markisha Washington and Brittnee Hazel each added 10 points.
Miles (10-17) got 24 points and 12 rebounds from Javonne Brown , 16 points from Enria Samuals and 12 from Tiffany Stephens.
