BATON ROUGE, Louisiana -- The Southern women’s basketball team tuned up for its Southwestern Athletic Conference showdown Saturday by beating Prairie View A&M 69-59 on Thursday night in the F.G. Clark Activity Center.
The Jaguars, 18-7 and 15-2 in the SWAC, will host Texas Southern in a head-to-head matchup for the conference title in the regular-season finale Saturday afternoon. Texas Southern moved to 15-2 with a 67-64 win over Alcorn State on Thursday night.
Britney Washington came off the bench to lead a balanced Jaguars scoring attack with 14 points. Kendra Coleman scored 13 and Jasmine Jefferson had 12.
Gabrielle Scott led the Panthers (11-16 and 11-6) with 15 and Alexus Parker and Jeanette Jackson scored 12 each. Jackson, the second-leading scorer in the SWAC with an average of 19.4 points, made just 4-of-17 shots, including 2-of-7 3-pointers.
