TALLAHASSEE, Florida -- It took a while, but Kenny Coleman has finally shed the “backup” part of his position on Florida A&M’s football team.
Coleman was the starter in FAMU’s 21-7 loss to Morgan State, and tens of thousands of eyes will be on him when he takes the field – again as the starter – this Saturday in the annual Florida Classic against Bethune-Cookman in Orlando.
FAMU coach Alex Wood on Tuesday said Coleman will start against the Wildcats. Coleman, who split time with quarterback Carson Royal before the latter was benched midway through the team’s game against Hampton, said he’s ready to make plays for the Rattlers.
“There’s no pressure at all,” Coleman said after practice on Tuesday. “I’ve just got to do my assignments, take care of the ball and get the ball to my playmakers. They’re going to do what they do in open space.”
