S.C. State Bulldogs will be without starting QB for final two games

ORANGEBURG, South Carolina --As if the heartbreaking, 9-6 loss at home last Saturday against lone MEAC unbeaten North Carolina A&T wasn’t enough disappointment for the South Carolina State football team, the Bulldogs were dealt another blow this week.

While regrouping, refocusing and preparing for Saturday’s 1 p.m. MEAC game at Norfolk State, the SCSU program (now 5-4 overall, 4-2 in MEAC play) learned that it will be without freshman starting quarterback Caleb York for the final two games of the season.

Early in the week York, who started and played all game against the Aggies last week, was diagnosed with a health condition unrelated to football. He spent a few days in a Columbia hospital for treatment and evaluation and was released on Wednesday. All indications are that he will be able to begin off-season workouts soon, having him on schedule and healthy for the 2016 preseason.

“Caleb is going to be fine and we should have him back ready to go for next season,” SCSU head football coach Buddy Pough said on Thursday. “This just kind of caught all of us a bit off-guard.”
