UAPB men open two-month road trip in Seattle

PINE BLUFF, Arkansas  -- It’s still over two months until the Arkansas-Pine Bluff men’s basketball team will play its home-opener. The Golden Lions’ season, though, gets started Friday.

The setup is nothing new for head coach George Ivory. According to past schedules on its website, UAPB hasn’t scheduled a home nonconference game since at least 2010-11.

It might be tough for some players to adjust to the bus trips and plane rides across the country, but Ivory hopes the team, which features several newcomers, uses the time to grow closer together.

“Just having that time to be together and getting to know one another (will be good), because we’ve got some new guys coming in that are pretty good, and we’ve got some guys that are coming in that are really going to help our ballclub,” Ivory said.

UAPB (12-20 last season) will open with one of its longer trips of the season as it heads to the Pacific Northwest to face Seattle. It’s the first of 17 straight road or neutral-site games for the Lions to start the season. The last three of those games away from H.O. Clemmons Arena are the team’s first three of Southwestern Athletic Conference play.
