North Carolina A&T Bowling Closes Out Season-Opening Tourney In Third

HARAHAN, Louisiana – Eleventh-ranked North Carolina A&T completed their first tournament of the season in third place after posting an impressive 11-2 record at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Invitational. The Aggies went 8-0 in Bakers play and 3-2 in traditional play throughout the tournament.

N.C. A&T started the last day of competition with the fifth seed and went 3-0 on Sunday to move up to third. They defeated Valparaiso 744-694 to start the action off on Sunday before moving on to down host Tulane 737-711 in four games.

ALLSTATE SUGAR BOWL INVITATIONAL RESULTS

The final matchup of the day was against No. 1 seed and nationally-ranked No. 4 Sam Houston State. The matchup went all seven games to decide the winner in the best of seven Bakers play. After dropping the first three games, the Aggies came alive to win the last four to upset Sam Houston State. Louisiana Tech took first place with Stephen F. Austin State taking the No. 2 position.

Day 2 featured traditional-format play where N.C. A&T suffered their only two losses of the tournament. The Aggies opened with a 943-923 win over Stephen F. Austin where freshman Pamela Warr bowled a 226. The Aggies lost to Jackson State 869-832 and fellow Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference school Florida A&M 928-892 in the second and fourth games respectively. Freshman Erika Quesada led the Aggies against the Rattlers by posting a 218. Other wins were against Alabama State (1,015-945) and Valparaiso (896-880). Strombeck had a team-high 241 on the day in the win over Alabama State. Sophomore Ana Olaya assisted her by bowling a 225. Meanwhile, the Aggies had two 200-plus games in the win over Valparaiso with Warr bowling a 205 and Olaya coming in with a 201.

Warr led the team with a 974 total pinfall and a 194.8 to land her in the No. 6 position in traditional play. Olaya was the only other Aggie to finish in the top-15 finishing 13th with a 943 total pinfall and 188.60 average. Strombeck finished 18th with a 932 total pinfall and 186.40 average.

N.C. A&T will compete Oct. 26-28 at the McKendree Invitational hosted by National Tenpin Coaches Association poll's No. 2 team McKendree.
