Ram Ramblings: Basketball team trying to follow football team's lead

Winston-Salem, North Carolina -- Back in October and November when the Winston-Salem State football team was making a run to the Division II national championship the basketball team was also playing very well. But hardly anybody noticed.

Now the basketball team has a chance to make a similar run on the court.  When I asked players after the CIAA title game if there were some hurt feelings when the football team was doing so well it didn’t seem to be that big of a deal.



“I mean, they were winning so how could you not be happy for them,” said point guard Marcus Wells. “We were out there in the parking lots of the football games selling programs and we saw what a big deal it was.”

Coach Bobby Collins of the Rams made sure to give credit to Connell Maynor after winning the CIAA basketball title. Collins said Maynor has set the bar high and that goes beyond the CIAA title.

WSSU Leaves For First Game In NCAA Div II Tournament

Winston-Salem, NC-- Winston Salem University's basketball team won the CIAA Tournament last week in Charlotte. Becoming the CIAA Champions, means an opportunity to play in the NCAA Tournament for Division II schools.

Thursday, students and staff gave the CIAA Champions a big university send off. The Rams are headed to West Virginia.

They are playing in the Atlantic region of the NCAA Div II Tournament, and their first round opponent is West Virginia Wesleyan.
