BALTIMORE, Maryland -- The Norfolk State Spartans figured a messy affair awaited them at Morgan State on Monday night, and they weren't disappointed.
On a night when foul trouble and poor offense were the norm for both teams, Norfolk State did enough to survive with depth, composure and Pendarvis Williams.
The junior guard scored a game-high 22 as Norfolk State outlasted Morgan State 64-59.
Norfolk State has won eight games in a row to improve to 14-10. For the first time in school history, the Spartans are 9-0 in MEAC play.
"It's a dogfight at Morgan every year," said Williams, who shot 8 for 13 overall, including 3 for 5 from 3-point range. "We still have lots of room for improvement. We're still not finishing games the way we'd like. But it feels good to be 9-0."
The Spartans never led by more than eight points but never trailed during the game's final 17 minutes.
