RALEIGH, North Carolina -- Shaw University's football team will open its 2013 season with a home contest against Charleston (WV) on September 7 it was announced today. In all, the Bears will play ten contests - four of them at home.
"The schedule is certainly a challenge," said Shaw Head Football Coach Robert Massey. "Our early games should give us a real insight into where we are and provide outstanding preparation for our CIAA competition."
After opening against Charleston, the Bears travel to Virginia Union in a non-conference matchup on September 14. The following week, Shaw heads to Wilmington, N.C., where they will face UNC-Pembroke in the Cape Fear Classic.
Conference play gets underway on October 12 when the Bears will conclude their three-game road trip with a game at Chowan.
They return home on October 5 to host Virginia State, then travel to Fayetteville State to begin CIAA Southern Division play.
