PEMBROKE, North Carolina -- It was a strange post-game on Thursday night after fifth-ranked Winston-Salem State failed to win its opener in a 25-21 loss to UNC Pembroke.Veteran players, who I have seen for the last three seasons after a lot of victories, had a stunned look on their faces. They almost didn’t know how to react after losing in the regular-season for the first time in 21 games.
Not since November of 2010 had the Rams tasted defeat in the regular-season. That was way back in Coach Connell Maynor’s first season and they lost 31-27 to Shaw on the road. Sure, there have been losses in the playoffs the last two seasons but this was different.
