Scott notes quality of his players and coaches
ETTRICK, Virginia -- Virginia State University has committed to football in a way that allowed new head coach Latrell Scott to form a staff heavy with experience at the Football Championship Subdivision level.
Scott, the former University of Richmond coach hired by Division II VSU on Jan. 14, will be the Trojans’ offensive coordinator.
“It’s exciting to be back in a situation to run a program again, and to be able to do it with quality coaches and quality kids,” said Scott, a Richmond native and Lee-Davis High graduate. “The kids have embraced the structure, and we’re running this just like we did at Richmond.”
Chris Malone, who’s from Emporia and was a four-year starter at guard for Virginia Tech, will coordinate VSU’s running game and coach the Trojans’ offensive linemen. Malone spent the past seven seasons on James Madison’s staff, on which Scott worked last season.
