Jackson State looks to remain perfect in SWAC play, as well as clinching the 2013 conference Eastern Division Title. In addition to coming into the game with five straight conference wins, JSU owns a three game winning streak against AAMU. Under head coach Rick Comegy, JSU has a 2-1 record against the Dogs in Huntsville, Ala. In JSU’s two wins at Lewis Crews Stadium, the Tigers haave not score fewer than 34 points. In the Tigers last loss in Huntsville JSU scored only five points.
HEAD COACH RICK COMEGY:
Jackson State head coach Rick Comegy (Millersville, ‘76) enters his eighth season at the helm of the Tigers’ football program. He comes into the game with a 55-34 overall record at JSU and a 163-84 career record. Over the previous seven seasons, Comegy has led the Tigers to six winning seasons, three Southwestern Athletic Conference Eastern Division titles and one SWAC championship. Prior to coming to Jackson State, Comegy was the head coach at Tuskegee University where he won four Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships (NCAA D-II), three Pioneer Bowl crowns and a Black College National Championship (2000). In 2000 his Tuskegee Tigers recorded a perfect 12-0 record. Since coming to JSU Comegy has a 5-2 record against Prairie View A&M.
SCOUTING ALABAMA A&M:
The Bulldogs are led by running back Barrington Scott who has rushed for 716 yards and four touchdowns. Backup running back Brandon Eldemire has 543 yards and three TDs. Brandon Wells and Jaymason Lee share quarterbacking duties. Wells has 696 passing yards and four TDs (8 INT) and Lee has 804 passing yards and five TDs (4 INT). Montaurius Smith is the team’s leading receiver with 42 catches for 542 yards and two TD. Robert Nelson leads the Bulldog defense with 71 tackles, eight tackles for loss, a sack and three pass deflections.
ALABAMA A&M HEAD COACH: ANTHONY JONES
Anthony Jones enters his 12th season as the leader of the AAMU football program. In 2006, he led the Bulldogs to their first SWAC title and tied the school record for most victories. In 2005, Jones led AAMU to its second SWAC Eastern Division Championship during his tenure and a 9-3 record.
LAST JSU – AAMU MEETING:
The Tigers beat the Alabama A&M Bulldogs 35-21 on senior day at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium. Senior receiver Rico Richardson passed the 1,000 receiving yard mark with a two catch 105 yard performance. JSU outgained AAMU 457 yards to 344. Clayton Moore (1), Richardson (1) and Rakeem Sims (2) each scored offensive touchdowns. Ryan Griffin scored a defensive touchdown on a fumble recovery that was returned 35 yards. Moore passed for 233 yards and Sims rushed for 125. Zach Pendleton caught six passes for a game high 125 yards. Cameron Loeffler finished with a team high 12 tackles and Griffin had 10.
NEXT GAME:
Jackson State returns to action Nov. 16 when the Tigers host Alcorn State at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium. Kick-off is set for 2 pm.
