TUSKEGEE, Alabama -- Tuskegee’s worst fears were confirmed Monday evening.
The Golden Tigers (8-2) dropped from playoff positioning in the newly released NCAA Division II region rankings, slipping to No. 7 in Super Region 2 following Saturday’s deflating 41-36 setback to Miles College in the SIAC regular-season finale.
Only the top six schools for their respective regional will earn a berth into the postseason. Participants and seeding for this year’s field will be announced during the Division II playoff selection show at 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
Tuskegee appeared to be a lock to secure the school’s first-ever postseason berth heading into the weekend. Head coach Willie Slater’s squad had a season-best six-game winning streak going before crumbling — four first-half turnovers — in front of the home crowd at Cleve L. Abbott Stadium.
