GRAMBLING, Louisiana -- Grambling is appealing the Southwestern Athletic Conference’s ruling regarding penalties and fines announced Wednesday stemming from the football team’s decision not to play at Jackson State’s homecoming game Oct. 19.The conference charged Grambling $50,000 and awarded Jackson State three consecutive home games in the series.
The fine would come from future SWAC distribution funds.
Grambling athletics director Aaron James said the school expected the penalty but said he doesn’t agree with its severity.
“This isn’t a surprise at all,” James said in a statement. “We’ve been working with our conference and our friends at Jackson State, so we knew this was coming.
