MONTGOMERY, Alabama -- A year after losing Tuskegee as its Turkey Day Classic opponent, the Hornets have made another huge change to its Turkey Day tradition by moving the Classic to Saturday.
The university released its 2014 football schedule Tuesday but the attention of playing national powerhouses Sam Houston State and Tennessee State was overshadowed by the university’s decision to move its annual Thanksgiving homecoming date to the weekend prior to the holiday.
The move was made to allow Hornet fans who live out of town to have time to drive in for the game and still spend Thanksgiving with their families, and to give the Hornets an opportunity to compete in the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs, which start the Saturday after Thanksgiving, Alabama State president Gwendolyn Boyd said in a statement released late Tuesday afternoon.
