NORFOLK, Virginia -- When her bounce pass into the post had its desired effect of drawing a pair of Coppin State defenders down low, Norfolk State guard Rae Corbo stepped back into the open.
"Woo! Woo! Woo!" she yelled feverishly as she clapped, calling for the ball in hopes of taking advantage of a wide-open look.

Alas, a teammate missed a contested inside jumper and the ball went the other way, but the sequence in the early January game spoke volumes about the player Corbo has become.
At long last, she wants the ball, and when she has it, she wants to shoot.
Corbo, a 5-foot-6, fifth-year senior from Englewood, N.J., has made the full transformation from overly inclusive teammate-pleaser to elite scorer. As the Spartans (4-11, 3-1 MEAC) dig into the meat of the league schedule with today's 4 p.m. game against North Carolina Central, Corbo leads the MEAC in scoring at 20.9 points per game.
