Jackson State baseball team erupts early, handles Southern 11-5

JACKSON, Mississippi — Southern pitcher Tyler Robinson put on a show against No. 1-ranked LSU.

His follow-up didn’t go nearly as well.

One week after he sparkled in seven innings at home, Robinson was roughed up at Jackson State, allowing four runs on five hits in the first inning alone as the Tigers erupted for an 11-5 victory.

The Jaguars had given Robinson a one-run lead after Marcus Tomlin smashed a one-out homer.

Defensive mistakes didn’t make Robinson’s life any easier, Southern coach Roger Cador said.

“We got out to a 1-0 lead with a solo home run, but we came back and gave up four runs,” Cador said. “We made the pitcher have to get seven outs, and when that happens, all heck broke loose.”
