Bowie State Football Earns NCAA Division II Super Region I Playoff Berth

BOWIE, Maryland – For the first time since 1988, the Bowie State University football team has earned a berth into the NCAA Division II playoffs. The Bulldogs (9-2) will travel to #3 Assumption College (10-1) in Worcester, Massachusetts for Saturday's (11/21) first round clash.

Bowie State was ranked second in the Super Region I Poll prior to Saturday's (11/14) CIAA Championship game, but dropped to sixth in the region after losing to Winston-Salem State.

"Hats off to our guys and coaching staff … We've done a great job all year", said 7th-year head coach Damon Wilson following today's (11/15) announcement. "We lost a tough game yesterday but have an opportunity to continuing playing [post season] football for the second time in school history … This is an exciting time!"

In Bowie State's 1988 appearance at Portland (Ore.) State, the Bulldogs lost to the Vikings by a score of 34-17.

The top seed in Shepherd (10-0) and the Rams will have a first round bye. In other Super Region I matchups, #4 Charleston (W.Va.) will host #5 Indiana (Pa.), and #2 Slippery Rock will host CIAA conference member #7 Virginia Union University.

All games will be played on the host campus and will kickoff at 12 noon.
