Alabama A&M Women's Basketball releases 2018-19 schedule

HUNTSVILLE, Alabama --  Margaret Richards enters her third season as the Alabama A&M women's basketball coach with high expectations.

With five returning starters and the majority of the roster back, Richards believes Alabama A&M has a team poised to climb the ladder in the Southwestern Athletic Conference hierarchy.

To help prepare her team for league play, Alabama A&M put together a robust non-conference schedule with a combination of marquee home games and road trips to power conference programs.

"We're excited about the schedule our team is playing," Richards said. "With four quality home games in the non-conference, along with trips to play some great competition in some marquee venues, we feel like this nonconference schedule should help prepare our players for what we will face when we get into conference play."

In November, Alabama A&M has two trips to power conference programs with games at Illinois and Kansas. The Bulldogs also have a road game against a UAB team that barely missed an NCAA tournament bid last season, along with a home game against Tennessee State.

Alabama A&M continues its trend of playing challenging nonconference opponents in December, with a pair of games at Austin Peay and Murray State, along with home games against Jacksonville State and Southeastern Louisiana. The Bulldogs also play in a holiday tournament in Jacksonville, Fla.

Alabama A&M opens conference play on Jan. 5, facing Jackson State at Elmore Gymnasium.

All of Alabama A&M's home games will be played at Elmore Gymnasium except for the Jan. 19 contest against Alabama State, which will be played at the Bill Harris Arena in Birmingham.

"With 90 percent of our team returning, the expectations should be rising," Richards said. "We had a good offseason. We put some really good work in this summer. Now we're excited about taking that next step in the season."
