Howard Bison Volleyball Remains Undefeated in the MEAC After Five-Set Win Over Bethune-Cookman

WASHINGTON, D.C. --  Howard University's volleyball team captured a hard-fought win on Sunday, defeating Bethune Cookman University 3-2 in Burr Gym. Set scores were 25-13, 25-17, 18-25, 18-25, 15-7. The Bison remain undefeated in MEAC play.

The Bison dominated the first two sets in what surely looked like a three set wrap up. However, the Bethune Cookman Wildcats, coached by former Howard volleyball player Brittany Williams, were determined not to be swept by the Bison. In the third set the Wildcats were on the board first and led throughout the first half of the set. After leading the Bison by as many as six points the Bison went on a five point rally that put them up, 16-15. Bethune called a timeout that would change the momentum of the game. The Wildcats immediately scored three points after the timeout and were unstoppable. They closed the set out, 25-18 and forced a fourth and fifth set.

The fourth set was nearly identical to the third set. The difference maker in the game came in the fifth set with the Bison returning to their quick and explosive model of play.

Both Jurnee Tipton and Kira Porter saw season high kills. Tipton with 24 and Porter with 18. Porter added thee blocks and an assist. Freshman Kailyn Williams had nine kills. Senior setter Tamia Dockery tallied 53 assists, 16 digs, 5 kills and a block. It was a season high night for her in assists and digs. Fola WIlson posted 19 digs, nine assists and an ace. Abby Morrow had 14 digs.

This was Howard's "Dig Pink" game in which both teams adorned pink attire in support of breast cancer awareness. The Bison raised donations for the cause. Howard is back in action this upcoming weekend as they travel to Baltimore to face Morgan State and Coppin State.
