WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of the District of Columbia women's tennis team defeated East Coast Conference foe LIU Post, 7-0 at the Southeast Tennis & Learning Center on Saturday afternoon.
With the win today in their regular season finale, the Firebirds (9-2, 5-2 ECC) secured the No. 3 seed in the ECC Championship Tournament next weekend, hosted by Queens College in Flushing, NY. The Firebirds will be pit against No. 2 seed, New York Institute of Technology, in the semifinal round on Saturday, October 27th.

UDC earned the doubles point today courtesy of wins at No. 2 and 3, and the hosts went on to complete the shutout with six consecutive singles wins.
Two seniors – Paula Avellan and Anastasia Khomyachenko – were honored before the match as part of Senior Day. Khomyachenko went on to team with junior Estefania Castrillon for a dominant, 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles for the first result of the match. Avellan would compete today at No. 4 singles and earn a decisive, 6-1, 6-1 win vs. Christina Jud.
